SAF Finale ~ Red Carpet Challenge

IMG_1727

Hi everyone!  Okay, I look a little stunned because it’s 11:00 Sunday night and there’s bad lighting in the studio :)  I’m back in my SAF Canada tank holding my favourite card of the weekend for the final Red Carpet Challenge.  It kind of matches my shirt too with that gorgeous maple leaf :)  Here’s the traditional display of cards made this weekend…

And now that it’s all over, I’m heading to bed…up early to go back to my classroom and start setting up for the new school year that officially starts on September 8th here in BC.  Thanks for popping by and big hugs to Nichole and the PTI Design Team!

SAF ~ Pins & Needles, Unconventional Materials, and Make it Work Challenges

hellolovelymaureenplut

I’m back again with the last 3 cards and challenges for this year’s SAF event.  I haven’t had a lot of time this weekend to take my own sweet time and play, but I do have a whack load of cards for my stash so that makes me happy!  First up is another card for the Pins and Needles challenge.  I love to stitch on cards, but don’t think I’ve done too many stitching through the sentiment cards.  Love how this turned out!

So I think this Unconventional Materials challenge was the most fun although I wasn’t going to participate!  Isn’t that the way it always goes. It surely was the one with the best story… I needed some air this morning so I went down to the closest hardware store, Princess Auto.  First off, how do you love that name?  Is it just in Canada?

princessauto

Truth be told, it felt a little weird being in there without the DH! HA!  If I HAVE to go with him, I usually spend my time playing the game I made up, “How Many Pink Things Can You Find at the Hardware Store.” Like this…

pinkhose

I was roaming the aisles and even had a man ask me what I was going to polish when I was looking closely at things in the polishing aisle.  It was hard to explain that I was looking for things to use in an unconventional way.  He said he was only asking because he was very good at polishing and just wanted to see if I needed help :)  Sweet!  Or maybe it was a pick up line! HA!  I finally found my items, some presto pins (no idea what they are for) and 3 bolts with a cool design on the top.

purchase1

I came in just under $10 Canadian, taxes included!  With the crappy exchange, I should have been able to spend $15! LOL!

purchase2

I used the tops of the bolts to create my background paper.  I stamped the image in gold pigment ink and embossed in gold powder!

Then I layered the Presto pin under the Thanks to hold it up and continue the gold accents.

The Make it Work Challenge was my last card.  I kind of struggled with this one and am still kind of thinking I want to makeover the makeover card! LOL  I had a watercolour experiment left over as well as a “Just Because” sentiment.

I made a flower out of the paper and added some autumn paper and an apple to create a teacher card, my favourite kind of card to make :)

Well, that’s all!  My last post tonight will be the finale!  Thanks so much for visiting :)  Group hug!

SAF ~ Threads, Pins & Needles, and Runway Challenges

celebratemaureenplut

Hi friends!  I’m back with the final line up of cards for the Stamp-a-faire challenges!  First up is a card some of you may recognize.  I loved this layout and those leaves so much I’ve made several versions of this card.  For the leaves this time, I’ve used the rock and roll ink technique to get some variations on the leaf.  This card is for the Threads Challenge.  I’m using Danielle technique of using the twine as a border between two patterns.

Next up is a card for the Pins and Needles challenge.  I had so much fun looking into my pins box…haven’t been there for a while!

Last up for this post is the Runway Challenge.  I found this card a little “wowzers” even for me!  To be honest, I haven’t watched any of the Project Runway shows except for the clips here during SAF.  I’ve been too busy!  I’ve only had time for DWTS! HA!  Maybe that will be next year’s SAF theme!

Okay, I’ll be back soon with the last set of cards and then the finale!

SAF ~ Mix and Match Challenge

celebratingmaureenplut

I was kind of giddy about this Mix and Match challenge by Dawn, my stamping crush.  She’s challenging us to using a colour combo that is out of comfort zone.  AH!!  The WaCCCky (Wild and Crazy Colour Challenge) is back!  I haven’t made one of these cards in a LONG time!  So this is how it works.  I have all the PTI colours in the pink bin (granted, I may need to add a few of the new colours) and pull out 4 colours.  Then I have to make a card using those colours.  NO CHEATING!  If you look at these colours, you can tell I haven’t cheated…HA!

It’s late, and I may not have had my camera on auto to take the PTI swatch book photo, but these are the 4 colours.

I used Dawn’s card for inspiration and love the way it turned out.  Okay, it’s bedtime!  I hope to share a bit more tomorrow…sweet dreams!

SAF ~ Bridal, Threads, Pattern, and Mix and Match Challenges

lovemaureenplut

Hi everyone!  So I’ve been busy this evening making cards for this year’s SAF event.  I’m posting as much as I can tonight and hope to get some stamping time in tomorrow, fingers crossed.  I’ll try to keep these posts short and sweet :)  First up is the Bridal challenge: use white only with any neutral for the sentiment.  I made a fun shaker with white sequins!

bridalchallenge

Up next is the Threads challenge where Laura showed us how she loops thread on her cards.  I actually saw this a few weeks ago during the Background Online Class and was happy to use the technique again.  How many of you are DEVASTATED that Laura is stepping down from PTI?  It is very sad but I’m glad she’s doing what is best for her :)  I’ve been a fan of hers for years!  I did some ink blending to create a watery background.  Those drops are not moonstones, but the old Robin’s Nest dewdrops!  Remember those?!

And the last card for this post is for the Pattern Challenge.  I was inspired by one of Amy’s cards.  I used distress inks to make the vertical line, then used a leaf stencil and a baby wipe to wipe off some ink.  I’m using some more dewdrops :)

Okay, I’m sneaking one last card in this post and then will post the last card tonight on its own.  The Mix and Match challenge was right up my ally…LOVE mixing patterns!  I used Betsy’s layout for inspiration.  I find using paper from the same pad or company helps the mix and match process.

Stamp-a-faire 2015 Meet and Greet

safcanada

Hello fellow SAFers!  I’m popping in with my CAS style SAF shirt, the Canadian version!  I was roaming around in Walmart’s women’s section looking for a white t-shirt to alter when I saw this tank!  The “Be Wild”  on the back sold me because sometimes it gets a little wild in the studio! HA!  I thought the clean look of SAF with our Canadian flag was perfect for this tank :)  I found all the iron transfers at Michaels.  There were so many options, it was hard to narrow it down, so I kept it CAS.  I’m looking forward to all the fun this weekend.  I hope to get to most of the challenges, although, our grandbaby is visiting so we’ll see!  Thanks for stopping by!

TGIF everyone!  I only have two more Fridays before I’ll be joining in that real good TGIF feeling!  Yep, only one and a half weeks and my lovely summer will be over.  It’s been great, though, and I’ve gotten lots done around the house plus some wonderful inky sessions :)  Today’s card is to help replenish my sympathy card stash.  It’s using the last August Viva La Verve sketch.  Be sure to head over to the VLV blog for more inspiration and all the details on how you could win some sweet Verve!  Have a great weekend!
